At St. Alban’s, all ages are always welcome to participate in worship and learning, but we know that sometimes having our littlest ones with us can keep us from being fully present. Children from birth through age 3 can be lovingly cared for in the nursery by our trained nursery staff, St. Alban’s Shepherds. The Shepherds are ready to play, read, sing, and give snacks and hugs. Nursery care is available on Sunday mornings from 8:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. (except when a schedule change is posted).
Children ages 4 through 6th grade have two opportunities each Sunday for learning and fellowship: Children’s Chapel and Christian Education.
Children’s Chapel takes place during the regular worship service. Children begin by sitting with their families. At an appointed time, children follow the cross out of the church. Children’s Chapel takes place in the Kingdom Kids classroom in the Parish Life Center. We participate in a developmentally appropriate liturgy, which mirrors the same liturgy happening in the church. Children return in time to Pass the Peace and participate in Holy Eucharist with the congregation.
Christian Education for Children (Sunday School) takes place at 10:15 a.m. on Sunday mornings (except when a schedule change is posted). St. Alban’s follows the Godly Play curriculum which is a simple, Montessori-style curriculum that tells children our “Sacred Stories” and then allows them to process the stories they hear in their own way through play and art. All children begin in the Godly Play room, to hear the story and participate in the “feast” before moving to different rooms with their age groups to do their “work” and respond to the story.
Club 456 is a junior youth group from tweens in grades 4, 5, and 6. This group meets on the second Sunday of each month from 3:00-5:00 p.m. for games, Bible Study, and snacks.
Vacation Bible School (VBS) Each summer, the people of St. Alban’s devote their time, energy, talent, and treasure to craft 5 days of holy learning and fun for the children in our community. Children who attend VBS can expect to praise God with singing and dancing, hear and see Bible stories come to life with our gifted storytellers, express themselves through art, explore God’s awesome creation through science experiments, and play fun games outside.
